Khan secures month of free travel on Gospel Oak to Barking Line

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced that due to the delay in bringing new trains into service the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has secured a month of free travel on London Overground’s Gospel Oak to Barking services. This is being funded by Bombardier Transportation which makes the new trains. The free service will operate between 31 August and 1 October 2019 (inclusive).

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore welcomed the news, saying:

‘This is welcome news for hard pressed passengers, who have struggled with months of delays to improvements on the line. The new four-car trains have walk-through carriages, air-conditioning, USB charging points, free Wi-Fi, live information screens and more wheelchair spaces. They can carry double the number of the old two-car diesel trains that had been operating on the route. They are also much better for air quality and the environment. It is a vast improvement on the pervious service and I can see why commuters are so keen to have them operate on the line as soon as possible.’
