Yet more problems with Hassell

Reacting to news that Inner North London Coroner Mary Hassell has delayed the burial of Rabbi Bobby Hill, Barnet and Camden London Assembly Member Andrew Dismore has called for Ms Hassell to resign from her post, calling her “insensitive”.

Ms Hassell has previously been criticised for trying, and failing, to institute a “cab rank” rule on releasing bodies, despite the needs of Muslim and Jewish families to bury bodies and complete religious observances immediately.

Barnet and Camden Assembly Member, Andrew Dismore AM, said:

“I see Inner North London Coroner Mary Hassell is up to her usual shenanigans. Yet again, she has taken a wholly insensitive approach following the sad death of Rabbi Bobby Hill, and failed to communicate properly with his family about releasing his body for religious observances and the funeral. It is sad that she has learnt nothing from the humiliating court decision against her in 2018.

“I have said before and I say again, Ms Hassell does not have the requisite knowledge or sensitivity to serve the diverse religious communities which make up the population of London. She should not have been appointed to this position, and has demonstrated again and again that she has learnt nothing from her previous scandals. Coronavirus or not, she should understand the needs of members of the Jewish and Muslim communities for immediate burials. It really is time she did the decent thing and resigned.”
