Hampstead Heath swimming pond charges criticised

A decision by the City of London, who maintain Hampstead Heath, to increase charges at the swimming ponds has been criticised by Labour representatives.

Barnet and Camden London Assembly Member Andrew Dismore said:

“The swimming ponds are iconic, and it would be very wrong to restrict their enjoyment to only those who can afford to swim there. I have put down a question to the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to see if he will add his opposition to the rises in charges.”

Labour London Assembly candidate Anne Clarke added:

“The current voluntary charge system does not appear to be advertised properly, and is opposed by a number of local swimming clubs. The City of London should go back and listen to the views of their own Hampstead Heath Consultative Committee, who supported a “culture of compliance” and making payments easier.”
