Letter for publication: Stables fire
Dear Editor,
The disastrous Stables Market fire in Camden Town was tackled efficiently by London Fire Brigade fire-fighters, who deserve our thanks and praise: but would they not have got there even quicker, if Belsize Fire Station had not been closed by Conservative Mayor Boris Johnson?
His unnecessary fire cuts are now regularly revealed to have been a false economy for Londoners, and this is yet another example of how short term tiny savings of a penny a day for the average council tax payer can lead to huge fire losses.
