Letter to the Editor: Friern Barnet “pop up” library

Dear Editor,

The organisers of the Friern Barnet “pop up “ library are to be congratulated on this excellent  initiative.

It shows just how wrong the Conservatives who control Barnet  Council were, to close the library in the first place. Now, by all accounts, they are obstructing those who wish to keep the initiative going. Just why can’t the Council let them have a short term licence ( for which they have offered nominally to pay) to open the old building on Saturdays until the Council can find a buyer, which is clearly going to take some considerable time. the Council would rather leave the building vacant and at risk of vandalism and deterioration, than let the community use it at least tempeorarily.

Just what was the Conservative idea of a “big society” supposed to be all about, if not this? yet another example of the Conservative Council ignoring the society it is supposed to serve:  a “society” who can give them a “big” verdict on 3rd May in the London elections for the Barnet GLA seat by throwing out the Conservative incumbent.

Yours sincerely

Andrew Dismore

Labour London Assembly candidate for Barnet
