Joint letter for publication: Belsize Fire Station

Dear editor

We were shocked by the recent letter that the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Hampstead and Kilburn sent to residents in the constituency.

Firstly, he says that he opposed the closure of the fire station and that he is very sorry it is being closed. He conveniently forgets to mention that the fire station is threatened by closure because of the new fire plan which is being forced through by his party’s Mayor Boris Johnson!

Secondly, he suggests to residents that the fire station building should be used to house a free school. We would like to remind him that there is an outstanding Judicial Review going on about the closure of Belsize Fire Station and it is simply unacceptable to write off the fire station when it hasn’t even closed.

Instead of standing up for the safety of his constituents, Simon Marcus is playing politics and distancing himself from cuts which have been made by his own political party. He should spend this time fighting for the fire station and lobby his boss Boris Johnson to keep it open.
