Letter for publication: Mayor’s visit to Hendon

Dear editor,

While  Mayor Johnson was in the area, why didn’t  the Conservative MP use the opportunity also to take the Mayor to Bury Farm to see for himself the issue on which he will have to make a further ruling, and  to meet the local residents to hear their concerns ?

Surely not because the Mayor had previously branded these local people as “nimbys” over their correct opposition to the Avanti school proposals for Broadfields; and because the Mayor is preparing to approve the golf course scheme, as the extra requirements  he has asked for are minimal? Perhaps the reception might have been rather more challenging than the one he received from the invited audience to which the Mayor was taken instead!

And for that matter, why did the Mayor also not take the opportunity to fulfil his long standing pledge of well over a year ago, and of which he complains that I continually remind him, to cycle around the death trap Stirling Corner roundabout for  which he is responsible?  Surely  not because it is too dangerous to do so, due to his inaction on the badly needed safety measures for cyclists and  a safe pedestrian crossing there?

yours sincerely,

Andrew Dismore
