Letter for publication: Police contact points

Dear Editor,

It is good to see that the new police contact point is to open in the old Hampstead Town Hall, for which I also campaigned. It was ludicrous that the local police had been forbidden to spend £30 on this; even  the Mayor agreed with me about it, when I challenged him at Mayor’s Question  Time.

However, let us also hope that this new contact point is not doomed to  close  before it has hardly started: the idea of replacing police  stations with these “contact points” has hardly been a ringing success so far! In Camden just 11people a week visited the existing contact points over the last three months and in Barnet it was little better with just 15 callers.

It  is little wonder the Metropolitan  Police are already reviewing the future  of the contact points which were clearly set up to fail, representing as they do a fig leaf of an excuse for the Mayor’s closure of so many police stations in Camden , Barnet and throughout  London.

Yours sincerely
