Letter for publication: 100 Avenue Road
Dear editor,
The news that Camden Council refused the planning application for 100 Avenue Road is welcome indeed.
But the ball is now in Boris Johnson’s court, as Mayor of London.
I repeatedly pressed him at Mayor’s Question Time to agree not to ‘call in’ the decision of Camden Council for decision himself , if the Council were to turn down the application, as they have now done.
The Mayor repeatedly refused to give such an undertaking , even though he said it was a matter for the Council to decide.
We now have or see whether in fact he will allow the Council decision to stand- or whether, like for Mount Pleasant, he was just playing politics and now decides to second guess the Council’s refusal after all by overruling them.
I would encourage all those who object to the scheme to write immediately to the Mayor at City Hall to express their continued opposition, before it is too late.
Yours sincerely
Andrew Dismore
Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden
