Letter to London Ambulance Service regarding special measures and local recruitment

Dear Dr Moore

I am writing to you with regard to the recent CQC inspection report that placed the London Ambulance Service into special measures. It’s deeply concerning that the ambulance service has been found to be inadequate in terms of being safe and well-led.

The report highlighted that 400 staff were recruited in Australia on an emergency basis without the rigorous testing and process that should be performed on key medical staff. Not training enough local staff is a major failure, especially when there are hundreds of people in Barnet and Camden desperate for well-paid, skilled work.

To that end I am asking you to start a recruitment and training drive in Barnet and Camden as soon as possible and making it widely known that we want local people to get these jobs. I hope that this will alleviate some of the pressures as part of the range of measures needed to take the service out of special measures.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Dismore

Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden
