Letter to Times on housing funding
Dear editor,
When I saw your headline last week, ‘Government cash to help create homes’, I might have thought that at long last we had some real recognition of Barnet’s housing crisis by the Conservatives.
But then I read on. Barnet has been awarded just £49,000 – and that is to be shared with Brent Council, too!
Whist any money is welcome, Barnet’s slice of this pittance wouldn’t even meet the deposit on a Barnet flat.
Maybe the homes to be created with this magnificent sum are a row of plastic sided garden Wendy Houses- that’s about the level of the Conservatives’ understanding of the ever worsening housing shortage, which confronts ever growing numbers of Barnet residents seeking a home of their own.
Yours faithfully
