letter to editors with Cllr Anne Clarke on controversial planning applications in Barnet

Dear editor,

We are writing to call on Barnet Council to heed common sense and defer action on contentious planning applications. The last two weeks have seen the start of consultation on developing the North Finchley Homebase site, and major alterations to the already approved scheme for the gasworks site in East Barnet.

Given that leafletting and public meetings are discouraged, if not prohibited during the lockdown, not all residents can participate in the planning process, especially those in the at risk category who cannot leave their homes. There is an important principle here that everyone’s voices count.

Whilst it is right that routine and uncontroversial applications can and should progress, it is simply unfair on the most vulnerable and least able to speak up to carry on with these controversial planning applications.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Dismore AM
London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden

Cllr Anne Clarke
