Letter to editors on Chancellor’s budget

Dear editor,

This week’s budget was a huge let down. A massive giveaway for business, yet nothing for struggling services. Claps for the NHS, but no pay rise. Education? Barely a mention. Policing? Nothing. The Chancellor cannot continue to make rosy statements in in public, whilst doing so little in his budget. He failed to take action on social care, he failed to help people trapped in buildings with dangerous cladding, he failed to build more affordable homes.

This was not a pandemic recovery budget, it was an ego trip designed to boost his chances of becoming Prime Minister. But it’s real people and real services that will continue to struggle with slashed budgets, and our community that will continue to suffer. We cannot recover from the pandemic only to find our public services in tatters.

Yours sincerely,
